The Tools |
|
The "tools" are the different applications that allow the community to communicate on various levels in this site. The following gives a brief description about each application.
The Notice BoardThis section provides a basic notice or message board. Registered members can post pretty much anything on the board, including up-coming events, social clubs and happenings, links to other web sites, and anything else you want to share with the community. The notices are categorized for easy viewing. You can create your own category or sub-category if there is not one to suit your purposes. There is also a general search that will find postings based on key words. For each posting, you will be asked to store a title, a brief description (up to 200 characters), an optional picture, and the details. The details can either be a link to a web site, or you can create your own page by using our Rich Text editor. Most are optional. You can modify or remove your posting at any time. No one else can touch it. You can only modify/delete entries that you made. You can also subscribe to any category or sub-category. By subscribing, you will automatically receive an email every time somebody posts a new notice in this category. An easy way to keep up with the things that interest you. The Business BoardThis board operates exactly the same as the Notice Board above. However, it is intended to display businesses in our community. This is the board to post and promote your business. You can link directly to your own web site, upload a "business card" graphic, or create your own page describing your business in detail. The Event CalendarThe calendar displays events for each month, providing a quick way to determine if anything of interest is happening this month. As a member, you can add any event to the calendar. Event information includes optional times, a brief description, a detailed description, and even an attached document. You can add recurring events easily for up to three months. Discussion ForumsThis section is the place to have community discussions. Got a hot topic? Interested in how other women feel about things? As a member, you can create your own topics or respond to others. Stay involved, stay connected. If there is a forum that particularly interests you, you can subscribe to it. Whenever anyone posts a new topic, you will be notified. This keeps you up-to-date on what's happening in the forum. There is a specific forum here for web site problems and suggestions. If you have any problems or have ideas for enhancing the site, enter them in here. We will be monitoring this forum regulary and will respond as we can. Email ListsThe Email List Tool lets you create or subscribe to lists of topics that interest you. All subscribers of a list will automatically be sent emails submitted to the list (by either the creator or any member, depending on how the list was set up). This is an excellent way to disseminate information to a group of people interested in a topic. Because all subscibers "opt in", you know they are interested and appreciative of emails you send. So often, we have our own personal email lists to which we send/forward mail that interests us. And we are never really sure if the recipients are all that eager to receive this mail. By using this Email List Tool, you always know your latest joke, politcal statement, advice will go to women wanting to hear it! This tool also saves the sent emails on the web site - to be viewed at any time. When you create a list, you determine if only you can submit emails or whether any of the subscribers can also submit mail. It really depends on the purpose of the list. An organization could create a list through which to send a newsletter. This would probably be a restricted list. But there might be another list that encourages all subscribers to contribute. |
